I think the two strategies are different. I believe that the bee stings force a particular immune response in which that response then attacks the pathogens where the bee pollen story relates to enzymes found in the pollen that attack pathogens.

There is quite a few studies on Manuka honey (and other varieties) that are applied topically to kill resistant organisms. The blog lady consumed the bee pollen rather than using topical applications.

Anyhow this is very interesting information. One thing I did find was that apparently not all honey has the same capacity, I would suspect this crosses over to pollen as well. Some honey was more effective than others.
