Your hypothesis would make sense if we (the users) could not verify the output of the devices, but we can, and the signal looks/feel correct...

As often, you imagine things in your mind and then assume this is true.
I imagine in my mind that you are 25 years old and a beautiful woman, does this change reality instantly ? (no you are still around 60 years old (you wrote this somewhere recently) and fat and old (and crazy!))
