Vek: "I believe those in Christ will follow him and obey him. I believe they will do that by His grace working in them, but that they will not follow him and obey him perfectly by any means."
Ed: Thank you for sharing your thoughts and i think we actually see this quite similarly. For me what's important is that the follower of Lord Jesus genuinely desire to follow Him as sincerely as possible as empowered by His Spirit even if we continually fall short of following Him perfectly. If we are truly born of His Spirit, i believe this desire to walk holy unto Him is what this new birth change will reflect.
I believe this is the expectation we should place upon ourselves and the one that should be taught even to brand new believers and that the healthy attitude to have and the one that is truly pleasing to the Lord is, "it's wonderful and a great privilege to walk in Spirit unto our Lord and we love doing it. He is so worthy of our commitment to walking unto Him in this way and He empowers us by His Spirit to do this".
I don't believe it's ever a good sign when someone decides to knowingly and willfully sin against the Lord. If the believer does not have the attitude of wanting to live pleasing unto the Lord, it would be highly worthwhile and to me of the highest priority to cry out to Him, asking, seeking and knocking for this deep desire to be imparted.
As i think you agree, easy believe-ism with no desire or intention of actually following the Lord's will and His ways should be revealed as a lie. I believe that it should be our goal to walk as continually as possible in Spirit (to the best of our understanding of what this is) and once we first notice that we are in sin (out of alignment with pure Spirit living) even in our thoughts or attitudes which the follower of the Lord should be continually paying attention to, "taking every thought captive", it should be our foremost desire to immediately repent of this and get right back in Spirit.
I don't believe this should be accompanied by shame or condemnation which is itself not of Spirit, but rather more of an attitude of "oops, sorry Lord, i stepped out of Spirit for a second there, my bad... thank you for revealing this to me and i am very happy to repent of it and come right back into alignment with you".
Essentially this to me is what real Lordship relationship and salvation is and i do agree with it (as opposed to easy believe-ism / using grace as a license to willfully sin). "Go away from me i never knew you, you workers of lawlessness" is one scripture among many others which i believe very strongly supports the idea of Lordship salvation.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any thoughts :).
