Leaving it alone is the only fool proof method. I'm going through this, I know how you are feeling. Have you considered healing one part of the lips at a time? I am leaving my lower lips completely alone while still micromanaging the upper lips, and it makes me feel like I look better to other people, it makes it a whole lot easier to manage. When the bottom lips finish I'll then repeat with the top lip until I'm hoping it's over.
