Hi all,
I've been neglecting myself health wise to say the least for the past few years due to anxiety and Depression which now seem to have stirred into something even nastier due to said neglect. I'm 27 and after about a year of really bad sleep pattern and often barely any sleep at all most weeks, coupled with junk food and caffeine (coca cola) overload, I started to experience the anxiety and Depression far worse as well as extreme sensitivity to light especially sunlight, and thinning, itchy and disappearing eyebrows. I had always been against using drugs to help my anxiety and Depression and this is where I've ended up :( I'm almost certain I have severe adrenalal fatigue but am worried it is now hypothyroidism given some blood test results.
The first set of results gave my GP (UK) cause for concern in terms of my thyroid and so I had to back in 3 months for more detailed ones. These ones were 'normal' to her and so she wasn't fussed anymore but reading around the web I don't think they're so normal after all. They were:
TSH Level - 3.62
T4 Level - 15.5
From reading around this seems to be on the path to hypothyroidism, and the eyebrow thing obviously lends itself this way too. However is there even the slightest chance that for both the eyebrow issue and the blood tests that it could be 'temporary' in terms of how my lifestyle has been so bad and is still severe adrenalal fatigue. With my sleep pattern all over the place I was on barely any sleep the days of both blood tests and 'felt' adrenally exhausted (even more than usual). I was also badly topping up with coca cola and other junk food. Could this have such a drastic effect, or do I likely have hypothyroidism now or likely to in the future? I know I've not taken care of myself to say the least, I'm deeply ashamed now I've had a few weeks of more healthy living and the clouds have slightly parted, but I would really like to turn this around if possible. Now I've cut out the coke the relief is slowly but surely coming, and I feel I'm on my way to feeling better than I have in years, but it is slow. If I had something permanent would this be the case? Would the blood tests really come up pointing to hypothyroidism on the basis of how little sleep / how much caffeine was in my system stressing my adrenalals on the given day?
Btw my mother suffers from hypothyroidism but I feel our cases are very different - mine has seemingly come from years of real neglect and me knowing something was wrong and happening in terms of my adrenalals.
Thanks for your time.
