This is me!!!!!! I know this is an old post, I have just found it as I am trying to get some answers for what I have been going through! I am 46 now and have had my family - but same history of 'undiagnosed PCOS', no abnormal cysts but all the hormonal disruptions. After years of disastrous hormonal bc, I went off everything - felt amazing! Regular as clockwork, new my body/cycle, felt great (now I look back lol).
Then I had a high cell change in my cervix, unable to use my old fashioned diaphragm anymore - let's give you a mirena while you are in surgery! Hmmmm.......I don't really do well with hormonal contraception.....Oh rubbish (HE says) so off we go. I must admit the idea of having no period did sound like a bonus. So I get ready for the 4-6 month settling period. That in itself was a nightmare, but I was determined to have the fabulous result all my friends with mirena had.
Long story short, it never settled - I had it in for 2 1/2 years. It was getting to the stage I was continually bleeding/spotting. All the horrible PCOS symptoms I had almost forgotten about were creeping back with vengeance. I was put on Lovan for my PMDD (at that stage I didn't even think back to PCOS, life was stressful - just figured it was part of that)
The facial hair, hair loss - weight, weight, weight!!!! My GP was lovely, but she had a mirena herself which was textbook perfect, I know she thought I was just depressed and was humouring me. Twice to the ancient endocrinologist to be blow off both times with 'lose weight, you are not that hairy'
So it came out, 4 months on still bleeding/spotting, which I expected 🙄
I am back to see GP early Feb, she has been on leave armed with all my info, I am suggesting I go back on the metformin (I had success on it back then) and because I also have 'mysterious' HBP (which I have never had in my life, even when I was pregnant! Oh I know.....it's because you are overweight, blah, blah) I may suggest we switch med's from coversyl to spirrolactone? I am honestly at wits end......thanks for listening
