Hi there! It can be so frustrating, dealing with medical doctors. There was a time when they refused to beleive a woman could be "positive", because HIV was a disease of gay men. Some women did not get the help they needed, consequently, till things had progressed quite far with opportunistic infections. Presumptions and beleifs can impede diagnosis. Some time ago, I went to the doctor with a rash all over my body, welts everywhere, no itching. I thought: syphillus! The doctor said he hadn't seen a case of syphillis in his entire career, no reason to test for it, and wouldn't order the test. I went directly to a STD clinic, and got the test there. No syphillis, but at least I had obtained a test result. Years ago, Dr. Caizza, of New York, wondered why he hadn't seen syphillis in his practice in years, and wondered about a possible link to AIDS--as he had a large AIDS practice. He thought that maybe low immunity was interfering with this STD test. He went to Germany, infected himself with syphillis, and learned that he already had it, with disastrous effects and illness from the second infection. Whether there is a latent infection with this disease in the population, never was learned. Dr. Caizza was shot at & run off the road in Germany, and died under mysterious conditions in New York. The disease is often referred to as "the great imitator". Even without sexual contact for years, if I recognized a symptom, I'd test for it. Your symptoms do not seem typical for HIV infection. Women tend to have different health problems than men with HIV. Severe opportunistic infections don't usually show up for many years. In your position, I'd likely go to a free public health clinic and get tested for everything. Wish you success in uncovering this distressing mystery!
