Missris, good for you - it's no easy challenge to meet when withdrawing from benzos.  There are a number of things that you didn't mention in your original post:

Xanax is generally used to treat the symptoms of a variety of panic and anxiety disorders and they're being handed out like M&M's, these days.  Xanax is the replacement for Valium which, during the 1960's-to-present have been over-prescribed and have taken the place of learning coping and management techniques.

Depending up on the reasons for being prescribed Xanax, the treatments that you mentioned above will not likely be successful in addressing or managing the core of what is causing the anxiety.  There are exercises and techniques that you can do to move through the withdrawal symptoms without creating a new issue to manage.

What are the withdrawal symptoms?  Headache?  Irritability?  Those things will be temporary - any physical withdrawal symptoms are temporary, though they typically "feel" as if they'll last forever.  It will be the emotional triggers that make those little pills look so inviting, and THAT will be a lengthy challenge to meet.

Good luck to you and what a great thing to do for yourself!
