While I applaud your willingness to try a different approach to solving your problems, finding a good counselor would be far more helpful, I think.
And from my perspective,(keeping my weight where the military wanted it for years) first and foremost, you will regain every pound and then some. You're telling your body that there's a famine going on, and as soon as it's able, it will get back that fat, plus more to make sure you're better able to survive the next fast aka famine. It doesn't know the difference.
The only way you'll keep that weight off is never eating again. I regained weight plus more after every fast (never water though, mostly juice) I went on except The Master Cleanser Lemonade Diet , where at least I only regained what I had to begin with. It's biological. It just raises your set point, essentially. Most weight issues are far more emotionally based, in my observations.
If you want to practice self discipline, emotional healing is the place. It takes grit and determination to dig thru those often quite painful issues. The difference is once you've done that, you are a better person, unlike the discipline of 'fasting', which just proves you can avoid eating for days on end.
I could go on more on the spiritual stuff but it'd be as long as my 'spiritual healing' thread over on the prophesy forum. I'm in the process of doing all the things that you describe as goals, If I've not accomplished them already, I know I'm well on my way. But fasting wasn't any part of it at all. If you want to know the whys and whats I've learned about those basically meta-abilities during my spiritual journey, I do talk about them there.
Feel free to read, or not. It's your choice. Even as it's your choice to keep going down the path you're currently on. But whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck. :)
But I think I'll do a post about choosing a good therapist. It's more than just showing up in somebody's office who has a degree on the wall.
