Hey all:

So, I'm 20 and I've experienced some hair loss. I won't be posting pics because, being the vain person I am, am sensitive about the issue. Right now I'm rocking 2; decided to buzz it all off. Anyways, I've noticed that my hair loss started during high school albeit slowly. It wasn't until senior year, I started feeling a physical change in my body. I felt lethargic and tired. Sometimes it'd be hard to sleep and often times it'd be hard to wake up. Anyways, to this day I still find myself low on energy and experiencing the same symptoms, but it's been getting better since I've been cutting less on junk food and grains and more on fiber and greens. But my hairline hasn't improved much; if anything it's 10-15% worse than it was 2 years ago. Anyways, I bring this up because I read somewhere that your thyroid plays a major role in the way your body functions and hair growth is also regulated by the thyroid. More research led me to discovering a common condition, that I was unaware of, called hypothyroidism and its analogous counterpart overactive thyroid. I've read that irregular function of these glands can affect hair growth and cause hair loss. So, naturally, I searched up treatments and cures for hypo-T and overactive-T and came across iodine. Problem is, I believe my hair loss is due to AGA, but I'm willing to give Iodine a shot. I mean, why not, right? I'm currently on week 2 of iodine. First thing I can say about it is that my skin has cleared up. There's a drastic decrease in Acne flare-up.

Are there people who can attest to iodine's efficacy at maintaining and possibly regrowing hair? I'm talking to people who've taken it over a course of several months and even years.

Some family history though: Grandpa on my mom's side died with hair. My dad is an NW5; he's 50 (I'm 2.5, brother is about 2.5 as well and he's 28). My mom's hair has considerably thinned and receded. She's a NW2, she's 50. My mom is prediabetic as her triglycerides are quite high (it's 389) and the doctor has told her it could be genetic.

Just throwing that out there because high triglycerides can be a symptom of irregular thyroid function although her TSH seems to be normal.
