Candiceann,
I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I am experiencing pretty much exactly the same symptoms. It started for me in late 2011. I also had an exaserbation of symptoms when I was given ivermectin. Also, I have tried over-the-counter worming medicine pyrantel pamoate--both ivermectin and pytrantel casued hexemer reactions the first time I used them.
Here is the short version of my story:
I had been experiencing itchy lesions on my legs and scalp that were not healing in 2011. I went to numerous dermatologists, and I received the usual treatments: Antibiotics , steriods.
After about a year of no change, I noticed that I was getting new lesions. However, they were now showing up on my back, hands and arms. At this point I was desparate, since I was now no longer able to wear short-sleeve shirts without constant questions or comments such as "do you have AIDS?" This led me to another shot at the dermatologist.
Since I had been experiencing the itching and the lesions for over two years at this point, and the fact that steriods and anti-biotics made no difference, I asked the doctor to perscribe some topical anti-parasitical medicine (permethrin 7%). This was my first attempt at treating this disease as a parasite.
After I applied the permethrin, about an hour later, my skin exuded a grey, sticky substance. This was happening all over my body (where I applied permethrin). This was exciting, because I assumed the grey matter was dead parasites, and I was rejoicing.
However, after a short period of time, the itching resumed, and once again I tried permethrin. The same results occurred: more grey substance exuded from my skin, and I acheived some relief from the itching for a short time.
Over the years, I have also tried ivermectin (stromectol). Ivermectin has been the single most effective medicine that I can attest actually makes a clear difference in my symptoms. It is an oral, systemic anti-parasitic. However, it is hard on your system (liver mostly) due to it literally being toxic/poisonous to some degree. Therefore, you can only take it for short periods of time to avoid damaging your organs. What I experience with ivermectin is relief, while I am taking it, but about a week after you stop it the symptoms come back and it is WORSE. So, only take ivermectin if your doctor agrees to prescribe it for a long period of time where you alternate one week on, one week off.
I have not been able to get a doctor to do prescribe ivermectin for long periods, they are very concerned about prescribing this medicine in the first place. However, I feel like that will be the only way I will be cured. Once I have health insurance again, I will attempt to get on an ivermectin regimen once more. I will let you know how it turns out.
To this day, I have itching, horrible itching (wrose at night). Most of my body is covered in unsightly dark-purple scars. I no longer date (I am 34, so I guess I have had my time anyway at this point).
I constantly can rub away this grey film off of my skin. If I apply glycerin products to my skin, it accelerates the amount of foreign debris that starts to come off of in the area that I apply it.
I have used hand-held microscopes, and I have seen the same kinds of objects that most people report. The globs of grey matter that come off my skin have little threads intertwined inside the glob, they are sometimes colored, but most of the time they are jumbled, clear, intertwined treads. They look like plastic, but they are very distinct, tube-shaped, threads and microscopic.
