Okay, so during the course of this thread, I believe I have found a small problem with my lips that should be easily rectified. For the sake of full disclosure, and to help in the best way I can, I want to make it public.
I stopped moisturizing and I saw a layer of SKIN grow on top of my NEW SKIN during the day. This happened three days in a row. I tried to slough it off, but a lot of it was elastic and stuck to the lip. I now believe that by applying aquaphor for only 6 days, I healed only the second of three layers of skin. The third layer, the epidermis, probably needs moisture to heal itself...I'm going to continue the aquaphor method and see where it goes.
But LISTEN: this healed at least one layer of skin. It healed the scabbing. I do not scab, whether I leave my lip dry or moist--I DO NOT SCAB. There are no yellow crusts. There is no swelling, no redness, no rawness, no pain, NOTHING. It's normal lips--and I believe they're just trying to grow the last layer of skin.
I previously advised you to keep the aquaphor going for 6 days and then switch to regular chapstick. Ignore that advice--instead, continue applying aquaphor every half hour for longer than that. I will keep you posted as to how things go for me.
TRUST ME though, THIS IS THE ANSWER. It must be--why would I lie and tell you my scabbing stopped, that my lip skin healed, and then admit that I may have ended this experiment too soon? Please have faith and try: this is the answer.
