Any time you are trying to detoxify, the toxins are going to be eliminated via the hepatic duct and unless you grab onto them then they recirculate. Bulk charcoal is one of the best scavengers of toxins and I use a heaping tablespoon (or less).

It is much better to cleanse the liver with milk thistle combination herbs, these provide deep cleaning.
