I have been approached by a few fasters on PM and I have been observing a pattern of obsessing with the result and outcome instead of staying in the process. I see a pattern of anxiety among fasters, anxiety steming from what ifs. All this at a deeper level is not so helpful. I was compelled to write this post because we may be forgetting one simple law, THE LAW OF DETACHMENT. So I have gathered a few words of wisdom from various sources below.

The law of detachment.

In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty . . . in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning. And in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe.

Seek refuge in the attitude of detachment and you will amass the wealth of spiritual awareness. Those who are motivated only by desire for the fruits of action are miserable, for they are constantly anxious about the results of what they do. When consciousness in unified, however, all vain anxiety is left behind. There is no cause for worry, whether things go well or ill.

The Law of Detachment, says that the way to acquire anything in the universe is to relinquish our attachment to it. This doesn’t mean we give up the intention to create our desire; we don’t give up the intention, and we don’t give up the desire. We give up our attachment to the outcome. The moment we combine one-pointed intention with detachment to the outcome, we will have that which we desire.

So when we fast, stay in the process, not mulling over what happened or what will happen, and trust the healing ability of our body and give it the time it needs to heal.
