Hi Violien, Thank you so much for your reply! I went to the link you gave me: http://www.violiendamast.nl/thyroid
Wow, so much great information! Thank you so much for putting that together. It is, by far, the best page I've read about how the thyroid uses Iodine and selenium. I am still studying it, because it is so complicated, and there are so many variations on what can happen, even to the same person at different stages.
Since the writing of my story, I had a few days of feeling hyper. It peaked four days ago, on Aug. 15th, with a resting heart rate of 85bpm. I skipped my lunchtime Iodine dose and felt better by evening. I went back to usual Iodine dose on Sunday. Monday I had blood drawn for my physical, and I got the results today.
On Monday, Aug. 17th my TSH was 9.4. Last June, about three weeks after I stopped drinking tea (and right at the beginning of my major throat symptoms and ensuing saga), my TSH was 2.9.
The TSH of 9.4 is above the range, so my doctor will ask for T4 and T3 counts on the blood from Aug. 17th as well. He said I probably need thyroid medication. (It's kind of funny because I think I've been seriously hypothyroid for months or years and it was completely hidden from view by the fluoride. And now I'm finally getting back to health, and they see my TSH and get all concerned.) I said I want to wait a few months and recheck my thyroid levels again. I'm sure my body is doing what it was designed to do based on what's happening right now. It will be interesting to see exactly what the T4 and T3 are though.
Today I feel great. I'm up to two drops of Lugol's 2% solution per day (finally came in the mail) which I take at breakfast and lunch. I could just be between swings, but right now I don't feel hyper or hypo. My resting heart rate is 60 and I don't feel too warm or too cold. My digestion is moving at the right speed, not too fast or too slow. Maybe I'm like Goldilocks, and have hopefully found the "just right" spot for a while. I know eventually I will.
Amy
