Hi BurntMarshmallow,
Wauw that is some story! You'll be helping a lot of people by spelling it out like that.
I had Hashimoto's and hypothyrodism from lack of Iodine and selenium for decades. My doctors even told me to stay away from Iodine because they were told in medical school it was dangerous for Hashimoto's. So like a good girl I did.
Like you, at some point I started to do research for myself because I was getting really poorly. At my worst I good hardly walk a mile and everything hurt all the time.
When I started the Iodine I had the same reaction as you did: really hyper periods. I also had to spread the iodine throughout the day so as not to become hypothyroid after a few hours of taking it.
I can tell you that those reactions all go away once you're saturated on iodine. I took me a loooong time to get stable, more than a year. That's because of the hypothyroidism. The thyroid needs time to repair. It needs time to repair its processes. It hasn't had iodine for so long that it has changed it processes so it was able to keep you alive with much less iodine. Now all of a sudden, waves of iodine are coming in. It needs time to switch over. I've written about it here: http://www.violiendamast.nl/thyroid
Around March of this year I started to feel very hyper again. (I have now been on iodine for four years.) I lowered my natural thyroid hormone ( I was taking 1 grain of Thiroyd) until the hyper went away. I turned out I had to lower it to nothing before the hyper went away. I have since been free of my thyroid hormone! So it took 3 1/2 years to repair my thyroid. Just to let you see how much time it can take.
It will take a long time until some equalibrium has set in. You'll have highs and lows, hypers and hypos.
Boron helps to get the fluoride out faster. http://www.health-science-spirit.com/borax.htm
I take boron in the form of borax. I take it for the candida fighting benefit.
Drink lots of water, take the whole iodine protocol, take the Sea Salt .
Also realise that iodine makes your body work faster. This means that other nutrients are being used up faster as well! Make sure your diet contains plenty of nutrients. Bone broths are excellent, easy to make and very nutritious. Lots and lots of veggies for all kinds of vitamins and antioxidants. Meat (protein) for detox.
You have a long way to go and because you started iodine you'll get there!
By the way, don't be scared of iodine. Lots of people at this forum, me included, take gram dosages now and then, sometimes for weeks on end. High dosages of iodine help flush the bromide and fluoride out of your thyroid in my experience. 100 mg really is the minimum amount of iodine you want to be taking in my opinion. The hyper feeling you get when you take lots of iodine goes away also when you keep taking a lot. The thyroid needs to adjust and it does.
