Narcissus,the ego, is the ghost in the machine. He is not real and will never be happy in any fundamentally profound sense because he is always seeking. He is always suffering and limited. Sex to him is emptying himself of the life force. Sex is a ritual reanactment of Shiva-Shakti, the eternal union of the male and female aspects of God. Narcissus is Fear. Thats all. When the fear is transcended there is infinite Love-Bliss. Narcissus must die. That is declared in all the spiritual traditions. The Knee of Listening is the simplest and clearest spiritual book ever written. The book is written by the Divine. It is not a guess as to what to do. It is not a synthesis. It is not a religion of belief. It is about conscious understanding. It was written in 1972 and by now there are hundreds of books and many teachers imitating it. Spiritual life begins with conscious intuition of the nature of ones avoiding relationship to reality. Then comes absorbtion in the divine through relationship with the Avatar at the level of Superphysics.
