I feel comfortable with your approach.
Have you investigated chances of having either adrenal fatigue (with fatigued thyroid as a consequence) and or Iodine deficiency?
Prior to re-take meds after fast, you may be better off trying to rebuild the deficiency or your thyroid, which actually may spontaneously normalize with the fast.
