What are the mechanisms behind what is causing this and how does one correct this?
Gaba/glutamate imbalance?
== maybe. I think B6 helps move glutamate towards GABA
Other neurotransmitter imbalances?
== I'd look at poor detoxification of norepinephrine/noradrenaline and related chemicals--phenols, etc. This includes liver sulfation, high copper and a careful diet.
== Also consider low lithium in hair or blood test. Even a couple mg of OTC Li from Li orotate could be part of your solution.
Thyroid/adrenal dysfunction?
== I've heard and probably experienced myself that the body makes more adrenal medulla chemicals (noradrenaline, ect) when it is low in cortisol. Much more could be said about this complex situation.
Need for iodine?
== nothing comes to mind.
Need for another round of dmps?
== Hg could be fouling up various systems contributing to the problem; however, DMPS works mostly in the blood stream. Lipoic acid, if used correctly gets into the brain and organs--cf Cutler protocol.
Is thats a cortisol issue?
== Maybe, but other issues are much easier to investigate. If Li is low and you respond to a partial capsule of the supplement, you have a very nice lead.
