Your symptoms match mine so closely I should have known you have strongyloides. Both Sharkman and myself have positive elisa tests for strongyloides. His symptoms don't match your symptoms as well as mine do. You can read our earlier posts by clicking on our names and all previous posts will show.
I know what you mean by doctors being shocked you have them in CA. I live in Oregon and my doctors don't even believe the test. I actually diagnosed myself and requested the specific test. I either caught them from a Vietnam vet 30 years ago or caught them in my childhood in the south 55 years ago. Either is possible since they have been known to be latent up to 65 years. Immunity weakens with age, disease, and/or stress.
Sharkman has never mentioned having any other type of worm. I have had several others, if not most and ridding myself of all of them has been a lengthy challenge.
I can see that you've done a lot of research this past week because of the depth of your questions. You know more now than many of the posters.
One particular problem those infected with strongyloides have is knowing when we are cured. There is no test. I don't believe there is a 100% cure. You would need to kill every single worm because the females do not need a male to be fertile. I plan to take ivermectin or another drug weekly for life.
I have read in one research report that strongyloides are sexually-transmitted. I've read much in the last 2 years and don't know where I read this. This makes sense to me because they are a soil transmitted disease. There are many larvae in the bodily fluids such as the throat and probably the vagiina/semen.
I believe your strongyloides are already disseminated because you are having problems with your eyes and lungs. I did, too. I also had MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity), night sweats and about 30 lb weight loss.
The CDC says to take ivermectin continuously until all signs of the worm are gone (I think it said based on a throat culture). This would not be reliable enough for me.
Another research report said albendazole was most effective on the larvae and ivermectin on the adults. You need to take both. You also need to take Doxycycline to indirectly kill larvae. Research the symbiotic relationship between the larvae and a bacteria. The larvae die without the bacteria.
My opinion is that they are not fatal at the stage you caught them, that is if you can take the meds and they respond to it. There are case reports of comatose immigrants being admitted to hospitals with strongyloides. Many died, but the patients were too far gone before receiving medicine.
Another consideration is the condition of your intestinal walls. Your weight loss tells me you have malabsorption and probably maldigestion. Strongyloides damage the colon, so it's possible the absorption of meds will be slow until the colon can heal. This is why the immigrants died. The hospitals were not allowed to use rectal ivermectin without CDC approval which wasn't fast enough. I suggest you take HCL (hydrochloric acid--stomach acid) with pepsin (a digestive enzyme) and a good probiotic.
Sorry for the long post.
