"3. Although Hashimoto's might be caused by Iodine deficiency in some cases, Lexi's case is evidence to the contrary. Lexi has been consuming 100mg of Iodine for an extended period of time along with the companion nutrients. Yet, Lexi developed Hashimoto's while they were taking the iodine."
Just because someone develops hashis while taking Iodine does not mean iodine was the cause. It may have just put the spotlight on another already existing issue.
the simple definition of hashis is when the immune system attacks the thyroid. So one needs to ask, why would that happen??
For starters iodine provides the essential base nutrient used for the thyroid hormones. This process creates toxic byproducts that require other nutrients to neutralize. When those nutrients are lacking OR there is a breakdown of the internal process due to some other genetic abnormality these toxic byproducts build. In an effort to stem the creation of these byproducts the body creates antibodies that attack the thyroid and in turn reduce production of thyroid hormones.
So just looking at the above one would first be wise to question if the OP was actually getting enough of the needed co-nutrients to prevent the buildup of toxic byproducts.
Next one must also consider the fact that an over stressed immune system is one that looses accuracy and flails about wildly, desperately trying to manage and in doing so often causes a whole slew of other autoimmune issues such as RA, IBS, allergies and what have you.
My time here on this forum has shown me that by and large people are looking for a smoking gun or a very specific recipe to follow. I realize this is the Iodine Forum but very rarely does iodine alone solve the laundry list of problems people come here with with.
Picking and choosing specific supplements based on their affects in the body invariable just highlights other deficiencies and causes additional problems. Everyone is unique and should be approaching their individual laundry list of problems by implementing a COMPLETE supplement plan. Most people will find that alone will solve many of their problems and whats left is then much easier to focus on and address by tweaking what they already take.
