Davanbar…
Started Iodine 15 months ago to help with severe menstrual cramps. Only symptom of hypo is feeling cold most of the time.
TSH is high but not relevant since I'm taking iodine. She's positive it's Hashimoto's because of high anti-TG. Apparently those are not influenced by iodine. Also high anti-TPO.
Never had my antibodies tested prior to this time. Prior to taking iodine, TSH was borderline high according to conventional dr (around 5).
Started the Iodine protocol for hormonal issues.
Taking Lugol's.
Not going the prescription route. Func. Dr wants to start with large dose of selenium and will look into NDT (natural dessicated thyroid) if it doesn't work.
Trapper…
Thanks for the selenium info. I was a bit scared to take that much. She's putting me on 10 000 ui vitaD too! + zinc, B6 (P5P) and L-glutamine and other supplements I already take (including magnesium and potassium). :0)
Muscardin…
Been gluten free for over 3 years in an attempt to reduce menstrual cramps (did not change a thing) and paleo for 2 years.
I sometimes cheat (eat gluten-free grains/some milk products). Not often. Positive I'm 100% gluten free. I cook everything myself and eat whole fruit/veggie/pastured meat.
It's very interesting that you talk about gut bacteria since the funct. Dr just treated me for SIBO. It was diagnosed with symptoms not a test, can't afford it. Maybe there's something there. Should investigate the link between SIBO and Hashimoto's.
I'm wondering if I've had Hashi for many years without knowing it and it's showing up now because it's the first time I'm testing for it? Or maybe the anti-TG are influenced by Iodine and she doesn't know and it's a wrong diagnosis?
At first I told her I would not stop the iodine. But I think I should listen to her and give it a try. As someone said, it's a restart, can take it again in a few months. Her plan with vitaD and selenium seams good.
Thanks for your input everyone, you are helping a lot!
