When looking for Amalgam removal concentrate on the removal. Dentists are what the word implies - their study is very different from that of a medical doctor. They really are... dentists.

The currently most recommended system is not a cofferdam but a system like "Clean-Up" from Scania Dental which looks like this:

As you can see it surrounds the tooth. Air from a bottle to breath would be nice too but opinions differ on how important it really is, especially when you have the above system in place.

For anything beyond the teeth I would try to find a "real" doctor (MD). Although I would see their main role in advising you how not to cause further damage, the various methods out there for how to use chelators ("protocols") and what other stuff to take, like vitamins or minerals, is not exactly well researched and passion from those giving advise (in forums) often replaces the missing hard knowledge.
