You could use the word "fake" if you wanted, to describe a hair that has been completely taken over by the infection. At this stage it will be a hollow tube, with little or no original hair color. The root becomes enveloped in an opaque bulb that often has black "gel" inside of it. It hurts less than pulling out a regular hair, but requires triple the force.
