"Can I trust this test? I've recently read about about how unreliable these challenge tests are.

==Cute Lion made good points. In addition, the health people used by the testing company to set the normal range were not likely taking a chelator! You are comparing apples and oranges.

== However, it is not imagining that those toxins were present.

I've had extreme fatigue for the past 4 years. Aswell as major gut issues (Candida). I also react to all supplements due to a Histamine Intolerance . Pretty screwed up!

== Having a symptom cluster that matches the toxins is another indication. For example from the hundreds of hair tests I've seen As + Hg usually = chemical sensitivities.

== Other tests to consider are urine porphyrins but beware of false negatives. Cutler gets into it in his interview with Schauss

== Cutler has a theory about how Hg fouls up movement/transport of minerals and so often results in statistically strange hair tests. More on that in his interview with Davidson and in this discussion with a noted autism doctor.

I'm just hesitant to dive into the whole Metal Detox Protocol on the back of this controversial Chelation Test.

== If you don't have silver-mercury Amalgam fillings there is minimal risk in trying a conservative protocol such as Cutler's to see how you react to the chelators. In the Yahoo groups getting a reaction--fatigue, lethargy, fog, etc--further suggests the involvement of Hg or HMs

== Also people with an Hg problem tend to get some noticeable gains in the first few months. Unfortunately people with a nasty As or lead problem might not get much early gains. Those with chem sensitivity often really struggle. You want to nip that in the bud asap!!!

== For example this woman was fortunate to respond so quickly.

P.s I've started taking Spirulina and Chlorella and have been experiencing a really strong metallic taste in my mouth. Any thoughts?

== I never had that but many others in the detox groups have. I associate that with either zinc or potassium. There are taste tests you can do for them. Hg, Cd and Zn are somewhat similar--cf periodic table and so compete to some extent. Kicking up the HMs might have caused your body to release some much needed zinc. Also EDTA chelates zinc as well. Cutler strongly encourages people to take zinc when using EDTA, but AFTER a year or to of Hg detox--much more could be said!

== Do your homework and avoid being like this.

== Chelation can be wonderfully powerful when done safely in a person that needs it. My fiance and I are two examples of those who had decades of mystery problems that got substantially improved after a couple years of detox plus typical supplements.

== Dr Mark Hymman is another example. While I was very grateful to Dr Hyman for helping me todiscover my HM problem I chose Cutler's detox method.
