The development of an illness is a slow and subtle thing that happens over time. By the time you get a disease, you've been sick for a long time. Drugs will do it. They are cumulative in the body. The body won't get rid of all of them, even if the liver does filter them out to a degree. They end up destroying liver tissue as well as the intestines. Then you get the bugs.
