Wow, very interesting Joe!  This has been a problem on and off for me throughout life

Doing Freddd's protocol only just recently taught me what is going on with this, at least partially.  It is potassium wasting.

I used to think it was adrenals too, and maybe at times it was.  I definitely have salt wasted in the past.  But I did not know about potassium wasting.

I have also recently learned about the EFA's role in keeping the cells hydrated.  Now I am looking into the amino acid Taurine, which I am sure I am lacking as I haven't eaten much if any meat in recent years.
