Hello,
I have had a sinus problem for about two years and i heard that the lemonade fast would help it. I had been doing the lemonade fast for about 8 days, and i was planning on doing the full 10. I was also taking psyllium and a Colon Cleanse supplement to help flush out the toxins my body was getting rid of.
Everything went pretty well, until day 8 when i took an extra large dose of psyllium (2 tbsps) and 2 tsps of another herbal colon cleanse. I drank probably a gallon of distilled water to help flush everything out, and i felt fine until about 8 oclock, when i noticed i was getting very light headed and was feeling very strange and tingly. I thought my blood Sugar was low (because i had cut back to 1 tbsp of maple syrup) so i immediately drank some orange juice. it continued to get worse, and severe nausea developed soon after. I tried to drink some vitamin C packets in case i was low on electrolytes, but by then i couldn't keep anything down. At this point i thought that maybe the psyllium was plugged up in my colon (due to the stomach ache) so i took some Epsom Salts to help flush things out. However, i couldn't keep those down for very long, and i just kept getting worse and worse. So, my parents rushed me to the emergency room where they did some blood tests. My temperature was at 95 and my electrolytes were very low. So low in fact, that one of the nurses said he'd seen people come in that weren't as bad as me, but had entered a coma because of it. Another thing they found out is that i have Gilbert's Syndrome, with a bilirubin count of 3.5.
So they hooked up an I.V. with some anti-nausea medication and electrolytes, and i feel much better today.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what i did wrong. The nurse said that Lemons naturally deplete your body of electrolites, and also that fasting past 2 days was a bad idea. (of course as we know the medical world doesn't know everything they claim to)
I think i took too much psyllium and water and flushed out all my electrolites in the process. I guess if i did it again, i would probably only go for 5 days, and i would include some pedialyte to help balance things out. I also probably should have done the regular 2 tbsps of maple syrup instead of 1. Should distilled water not be used in this fast?
Oh, forgot to mention I am 21, 6'1", 160.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? could the gilbert's syndrome have anything to do with it?
Thanks for any advice.
