Hi TLD ~

What made you add the anti-depressant?

I had the same thought...if I could have something to take the edge off - my body wouldn't always feel in stress and my adrenals wouldn't take such a battering and could finally heal.

Anti-depressants didn't work for me. I've tried them twice and they gave me epic panic attacks, severe headaches, increased insomnia, mood swings and flat line depression.

I was now given the option of taking an antiepletic drug to help with feelings of anxiety. I am very on the fence about this.

My mom and I are both high stress individuals and I believe we suffer from the same thing. She had PTSD when she gave birth to me so I was probably marinating in her adrenaline.

My concern with these drugs and anything that lowers cortisol is that I tend to have a rebound reaction.

Also I noticed you were taking 800mg magnesium. That is the dosage I am on now.

But I had a hair mineral analysis done and they told me to watch my magnesium intake b/c it can further slow down the adrenals. I had increased my magnesium to 1,200mg/daily to counter any calcium (estrogen) and my period which was very late finally arrived. Mentally I do feel calmer and not as anxious but today I felt like a zombie. Very sluggish in the AM and that exhausted feeling like you're body wants to crash but it can't. Makes sense that too much magnesium would be tied to an aldosterone issue. My skin is tenting and I have increased urination after after a little bit of fluid.

My friend is bi-polar. I had asked her what it was like...she told me that she could go on very little sleep. I think if I didn't take a benzo at night, I would probably be the same boat (although I don't suffer from the kind of manic feelings she had). Very appealing thought to take a drug to ease the anxiety so I could be on the road to healing....if I thought it would help...I would swallow it in a heart beat.

Something you said in another post struck me. We are both the same age and you mentioned that you look good for your age. Everyone tells me that I look younger than I do. I always joke that it's because my DHEA (the youth hormone) runs high for someone my age. Out of curiosity..what have your DHEA levels been like.
