Joe!
hormones are so confusing!!
I like your theory that progesterone is converting at a slow rate to cortisol and aldosterone with the rest going towards androgens. That would explain why I have been getting Acne cysts before the start of my cycle. Heck, looking back over my health history, I always had wicked cyst breakouts before my cycle especially in my late teens and early 20's. So I was probably cortisol challenged for a very long time although I didn't know it b/c I am a high adreneline girl.
My estrogen to progesterone ratio was always ok, maybe a little on the bottom range of normal but not terrible.
The last 3 months I have been on progesterone, my estrogen climbed sky high. Once the progesterone was lowered, my estrogen dropped to normal mid-range but my progesterone was at the high end of normal.
During this period, I was at my worse. Panic, anxiety, tension headaches, stomach inflammation, increase night wakings, night terrors, paper thin skin, feeling faint. I was also on licorice root which prob pushed my potassium even lower. Trying to add an SSRI threw me off a cliff (never again).
So far the "calming" supplements and hormones make me feel depressed or increase PMS symptoms. Depending on the adaptogen, I start off calm and then rebound.
Licorice root made me feel calm at first but then went the other way on me.
What Is working right now is the B vitamins which give me a good energy source and magnesium to help calm my nerves. Now I can wait in line a little better at the supermarket without feeling like nerves eating my stomach or wanting to jump out of my skin.
But every now and then after exerting myself.. I get what I call "tired eye" where my eyes feel like they want to shut from exhaustion but my body won't let it. That is why I am curious to try an adrenal glandular, I was told I might need to do this to hedge the effect of magnesium which could drive potassium and sodium lower (makes sense if magnesium lowers your blood pressure).
your thoroughfs?
