I had this exact same problem recently, and after some research, discovered that gas stoves are at the top of the list of things that bother people with MCS and are not good for healthy people either! Natural gas is full of formaldehyde and has been found to make chemical sensitivities worse. In my case, I had our landlord shut off our gas (since the gas is still being released even when the stove is turned off). You can purchase an electric stove top or individual electric burners, which is what we did. (They work great!) If other people in your apartment complex have gas stoves, I would suggest moving if possible, as their gas is still affecting you. But having your gas shut off should help a lot. Also, try cracking a couple of windows to create a cross breeze throughout your house. (Even in winter, I read that only about 2% of the heat in your home escapes when you have a cross breeze.) If you do not have an air filter, I HIGHLY suggest you get one. I own a photocatalytic portable air filter, which is one of the only ones that takes care of formaldehyde, but it was very expensive--if I had heard of them sooner, I would have tried photocatalytic light bulbs, which are MUCH cheaper and also take care of formaldehyde, odors, mold, bacteria, etc. They are literally regular light bulbs that act as air purifiers. (These can be found at http://www.sanibulb.com/#a_aid=MCShelp ) Please realize that a simple face mask will not be enough when cooking with natural gas; the gas will remain in your air even after cooking with it. Hope these tips help...best wishes to you!!
