E-cigs are simply vaporized nicotine, and the only "benefit" from them is that they aren't combustible plant material laden with chemicals.

E-cigs also feed the facet of oral fixation with smoking addiction, not manage it.  Using a drinking straw cut to the length of a cigarette is FAR more sensible and safe than using any device that delivers nicotine into the body, and this includes nicotine gum and patches.  Using anything that continues to deliver the chemical substance into the system is only trading one addiction for another.

The physical withdrawal from tobacco lasts about 5-10 days.  It is the psychological addiction that is the most difficult aspect to manage.  I smoked for 35 years and made the decsision/choice to stop.  I will have a year without tobacco in March, and I still am managing the psychological triggers, and likely will for the rest of my life.

Addiction, of any kind, is a monumental effort to manage, and it is not managed by trading one addiction for another.
