Retention enemas are to be held indefinitely. In other words, until the next bowel movement.

If I said to take an enema every 12 hours, I don't remember saying that. Once a day is fine. Of course I do recommend doing at least 2 cleansing enemas followed immediately by a retention enema (containing at least nystatin).
