No---dragons are very real---they just don't come to this world. I remember very clearly, my past lives as a dragon rider. Of course I could have been flying thru the air all by myself, just imagining my dragon, Pythos, eh?? But their world didn't get an asteroid slammed into it so the dinos never died off, but became sentient instead. But they are about as kindly and compassionate as an alligator, because they are predators--can't care too much about that fuzzy little bunny that's about to become dinner, so mercy and kindness are alien concept to the dragons. If we'd actually had a dragon colony here, we'd be a lot less enamored with them. The're big, mean, and always hungry with the patience and temper of a volcano. They'd be a huge menace, since they are so powerful and in general, won't negotiate with what they consider to be such inferior beings as us.
Also as a dragon rider, I was a lot tougher, but Pythos often got too rough with me. Riding a dragon is sorta like hanging on to the outside of a F-4, with less to hang on to. One of Pythos's favorite things to do was a full-on barrel roll. Consequently I fell to my death a lot of times, but he recognized my spirit and just go pick me out of the next hatching.
Perhaps you think I'm making this up, but I am far from this imaginative. I doubt I could make up even a third of this---instead, it's pure memory--as clear as what I ate for breakfast.
