Several good inputs in this thread. My two cents would be that the vit D over these years may have caused a hardening of the arteries, calcification.
To redo a possible calcification; vit K as mentioned in posts above, vit C several grams daily, boron, MAGNESIUM.
Boron is also, as you may know; important for the metabolism of calcium and magnesium; activating vit d. It is the most important mineral for the parathyroid, which runs the hormone calcitonin; that again runs the blood levels of calcium +++

(The borax mine workers in Turkey get approx 30 mg of boron daily by inhaling the dust, for years. They have no problem with reproduction.)
