According to police in Delray Beach, Fla., one would-be robber recently learned it takes more than simply brandishing a firearm to become a proficient criminal. Ben-Belarrio Ulysse is suspected of pointing a .38-caliber revolver at another man in an attempt to rob him; however, his victim was also carrying a firearm and was ready to use it to defend himself.
The man pulled out his gun, causing 28-year-old Ulysse to initially fall to the ground. He then got up and fled the scene on foot, though he left his weapon behind.
Though Ulysse failed in this robbery attempt, it is a previous crime he is suspected of committing that might help seal his fate. A local man who claims the suspect held a gun to his neck and stole $900 from him identified his attacker and said the man is often seen walking in the neighborhood.
Police captured Ulysse late last week and jailed him on three counts of aggravated assault and one robbery charge.
This incident is the latest in a string of similar self-defense narratives that have corresponded with a marked increase in pro-gun sentiment among Americans.
