These past 10 years i've suffered from tonsil stones. My tonsils didn't look inflamed either, but I knew I had a low grade infection. My breath was horrible. Whenever i'd cough or manage to squeeze one out, it'd stink like pure sulfur. My daughter at the age of 8 started to get the same issue. I felt bad for her because kids her at age in school can be very blunt or plain cruel. I also basically had to lie about how many times I got infections, but I was also on Antibiotics off an on for acne, so i didn't have to lie about that. I managed to convince an ENT doctor that my daughter and myself both suffer from this problem, and would like to get the surgery. He noted that we both have bigger than usual tonsil crypts, and that food particles must be getting lodged in there every time we eat, which bacteria then feast on, and create that manure smell. My daughter and I both got our tonsillectomies around April of this year.(2014) I couldn't tolerate the painkillers given to me after the surgery, so I decided to just deal with the immense pain (i have a high pain threshold). after a couple months my throat felt normal again. It was even sooner for my daughter (children must heal quicker.) Both me and my daughter's bad breath was completely resolved. as you also stated, now my tongue doesn't have that white coating it used to. It feels so liberating knowing I can talk to people in close proximity and not be afraid of emitting some foul odor.
