Just for the record im not asking any veg to change their diet, simply admit that your choice can NOT provide all the nutrients your body needs. Most veg's are snowed by someone into thinking they can get by without supplementation and its simply not true.

Thanks for the clarification on when you started iodine. Please note it will likely take 6-12 months at 50mg a day before you are sufficient. Supplementation takes time for results. You didnt become deficient over night and you wont reverse it overnight.

A rise in TSH is very common when one starts iodine. As I mentioned above TSH prompts NIS symporter creation, in simple terms the NIS symporter is what takes up Iodine so it can be used. Often times those with low Iodine levels also have low NIS symporter numbers so part of the healing process is to rebuild the number. Most docs simply dont understand the detailed inner workings on the thyroid and panic at this point. Mt recommendation is to just stay the course and worry less about the labs and more about how you feel.....and give it time.

Now, onto b12, 235pg/ml is low for sure. As you have stated, in the US anyway the normal range is 241-897 pg/ml but in every other civilized country on the planet the low water mark is around 500. With that in mind there are literally thousands of cases of people suffering permanent and devastating neurological damage at levels below 500pg/ml but above 241pg/ml....many call this the grey area. Check out the book "Could it be B12?"

B12 is stored in the liver and it can store years worth so a deficiency can actually be taking place long before any symptoms arise. My recommendations of working up to 40mg a day for 6 months is to replenish liver stores.

Also note that as we age we lose intrinsic factors in the gut which help the body pull B12 from food. There are also various genetic predispositions that make some less able to process B12. Then as always various heavy metals, such as mercury, collect on the blood - brain barrier, when cobalamin (ie B12) gets there it sticks to the mercury, becomes inert and is filtered out of the blood. This is a double edged sword. Good because it helps eliminate mercury from the body but at the same time that heavy metal build up prevents the cobalamin from getting to the brain and spinal cord where its needed.
