My thyroid also hurts when I take too much Iodine or selenium.
My latest blood test shows total iron, TIBC, and transferrin saturation all in range. (The doctor didn't bother to do ferritin.) RBC and HGB are also normal. My iron levels do go up and down thanks to my heavy periods but I manage to keep them in range with organ meats.
