In a similar vein, some of my real life experiences as an amateur driver.
During the 80's I lived in Ohio. Coincidentally i was in my early to mid twenties. Observation #1, Ohio road cops mean business which is to say, in earning their daily bread they rake in a lot of $ for the corporation they serve .... not saying this is vastly different than other states, just sayin thus was part of my experience while living there. For instance, many states utilize road cops in marked cruisers but there are many exceptions. Among the ones observed in Ohio, road cops sitting at speed traps in unmarked hotrods as well as speed traps in the air ....sky ... as in in small, low flying planes and other flying craft parked over choice portions of roadways cherry picking bad guys in speeding motor vehicles.
Ohio Case #1, 1983, early one weekday morning, suburban Cincinnati, exit parking lot of apartment complex heading to work and travelled, oh, maybe quarter to half a mile doing approx 54 in a 45 before being waved over to side street by road cop standing in the road at a busy residential speed trap, approximately 4 other cars waiting there ahead of me .... took the ticketing road cop nearly half hour to process them before walking to my car where I was waiting impatiently with window down, ID papers in hand and FM radio thumping away. Road cop take papers, briefly inspects while saying to me " do you know how fast you were going." My reply - why are you asking me, you're the one with radar gun? A quick smirk followed by comment " oh, you are one of those", cop turns, trudges to cruiser, comes back 5 mins later, hands me ticket along with "have a nice day", we each go on with our lives.
Ohio Case #2, roughly 6 months later, suburban Cincinnati but different locale and township than the former, road cop pulls me over for doing approx 44 in a 35. He comes to the window, I give him lotsa smiley yes sirs, no sirs, he looks over my papers, hands them back with a pleasant smile " try to keep it at speed limit", goes on about his life and I mine sans ticket.
Case #3, roughly 1year later, suburban Dayton, it was so late Saturday night it was Sunday morning, cruising home from a night of barhopping, considerably intoxicated, got pulled over doing approx 60 in a 40, cop comes to window, asks if I know how fast I was going, gave him lotsa yes sirs, no sirs, thank you sir, Im an idiot sir, lost track of speed sir, he cautions me to slow it down and be more careful, walks back to cruiser never having asked for my papers.
