I tend to think they are partially right in relation to the purpose of stomach acid. Seems to me, as an opinion of course, that the purpose of stomach acid is only to greatly reduce the numbers of bacteria in foods, but not totally kill them off. This way the gut flora already in the intestines gets a chance to see if the new bacteria that arrives can be useful, and if so it lets it live and they swap dna and so forth. Otherwise if its not useful, and given the stomach acid has already reduced the numbers of new bacteria coming in then the intestinal flora simply destroys it.
