this is elemental iodine:
that is sublimed I2 on a white surface and probably a hot air gun speeding up the sublimation. the purple color is how iodine was discovered in the first place. the second is just a good pic of what the stuff looks like. if left out in the air you will return later to nothing. it will enter the spirit realm any time it gets the chance.
then the salt:
my guess is this is fairly fresh and in a warm and moist environment. you can see a tinge of elemental escaping its bonds already. when it is fresh and the [waters of hydration are - scratch that. thanks vulcanel] moisture content is correct it is white. potassium iodide that has lost a lot of its iodine is also white, so that is no sign of freshness or purity.
anyway, these are the two substances everyone is ingesting. the potassium iodide is 75% elemental and 25% potassium.
this last point is where all the confusion is. some count the weight of iodide solutions as the whole molecule, including the potassium. pure potassium solutions like sski are in fact counting both elements. a 30mg drop of SSKI contains 22.5mg of elemental iodine.
that is how lugols is reckoned - by the total iodine content, not the potassium. 5% lugols is a 5% aqueous solution of elemental iodine. this requires 10% iodide in the solution. those who think themselves clever are adding these two numbers together and calling their product 15% lugols. who can dispute it? even though it is just 5% lugols. its a fraud. its purely taking advantage of peoples ignorance and brainwashing to buy the bigger, better, stronger product. not only that but what on earth are people like that actually selling in their product? really!! same goes for 7% and all that. even 2% is just a farce. 2 parts 5% lugols mixed with 3 parts water. why?
the iodine in a drop of lugols is also figured by iodiine content only. that 6.25 drop of lugols (or half of an iodoral pill) is actually five mg of potassium iodide and 2.5mg of elemental. three quarters of the KI molecule is 3.75mg plus 2.5mg gives you 6.25mg of iodine. this is why when i say 100mg is the minimum daily amount of iodine i mean like lugols. if taking SSKI only it would be 135mg to get the same amount of iodine.
