Is it possible from the softwares side to provide a disciplinary option for moderators, whereby instead of moderators "banning" a particular poster, an option is present on the Moderator Screen to "restrict to previous pages only", a particular user ?
That way, if poster X were acting in a fashion that tends to repulse normal people from coming back, poster X's activity would be limited to only posting on previous pages of the forum. That way, poster X could still help people out, if that is their intent, and the forum wouldn't suffer loss of readership from having whacky postings appear on the forum's front page to new visitors by poster X, driving away new viewers...... Any thoughts on that ?
I'd love to have such option, because it wouldn't be a banning, more of a probation. And if the poster X could demonstrate they can behave normally after some time, the moderators could re-admit the poster X to being able to make postings on the viewable front page of the forum.
Such option would remove the stimulation of the problematic poster from having an audience that they perceive gives them "attention"; I think some people write things just for getting attention, provoking disarray, etc., and if moderators can remove that stimulus for attention-gathering, it might help while still giving the poster an opportunity to help others. Page 2 of most popular forums isn't that far back in time that their postings on page 2 or earlier would not be useful.
Thanks for considering it.
