Traditional chain saw bar and chain oil is petroleum-based, which comes with some environmental drawbacks and health hazards. An alternative is vegetable oil-based lubricants, which operate efficiently, even at low temperatures. This alternative is environmentally conscious, bio-degradable, and may result in fewer health problems from inhalation or ingestion. Some do-it-yourselfers advocate using canola oil straight out of your pantry as a bar and chain oil alternative.
