I'm thinking it may be an old injury...
(someone on yahoo answers had a question about an old swollen leg injury still there years later)...

"Swollen spot on leg after an injury 2 years ago? "
"So maybe a year and a half ago my friends and I were messing around. Needless to say, a 240 pound man managed to land his knee into my shin. It was extremely bruised, swollen, it hurt so bad I thought it was broken. The emergency room took x-rays and it was fine. However, there is still a large swollen spot on my leg and it still hurts a little after all this time. Any ideas what could be wrong with it?"

Could be some residual blood in an internal bruise not visible from the surface. 
Your doctor could arrange for you to go to physio therapy to have the spot reduced. 
I had a motorbike accident, and suffered the same thing.
