INOSITOL acts like a B vitamin, is called "B-8" and is a specific for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. It is also helpful in depression, lung cancer when linked with a sugar, diabetes and Syndrome X. Here's Ray Sahelian's overview of studies:

Please note the chirality, or "spin" of the molecule as some studies use a D-Chiro-Inositol. Others use "Myo-Inositol."
