Dear Happydog,
I suffer from severe Depression and anxiety. I have been on several antidepressants for the last 5 years without relief. About two weeks ago my sister-in-law told me I should have my thyroid checked. Not by the usual blood test methods because they are NOT reliable. I did it by the basal body temperature. My doctor (an M.D. who practices alternative medicine) uses this method: Take your temperature every day for six days three times a day, at 9:00, 12:00 and 3:00. Take the average for each day. My temp never got anywhere near 98!!! It was always around 97.2 and on the day I saw the doctor it was 96.7. He said that indicates a thyroid not working correctly. He put me on Armour thyroid (a natural dessicated pig thyroid) last Friday. As of today, four days later, my temp is around 98. So it is correcting my body temp. I'm hoping the antidepressants will kick in now. Apparently meds don't work well if your thyroid is out of whack. I hate taking the meds, too, but my Depression is situational, and until I'm out of my situation it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't know if this will help you, but it's just a thought. God bless you. I cry every day as well, and I don't think there's anything as horrible as depression.
