Not sure that is a good example to use..

Tincture making, like Scotch or Bourbon that are barrel aged depends on crappy Vodka. Single distillation with a toxin intact that is well known to destroy fiber allowing potent extraction from stems and even the wood barrel itself..

Essentially a multi distilled and carbon filtered Vodka cannot extract the real important substances.

Not exactly a match to water..
