Thanks so much for the responses. I think I definitely feel more comfortable waiting until I have had the tests to resume the iodine, it would be good to have a baseline before I start regardless. TPO is one of the tests the naturopath has ordered, I just have to find a doctor that is willing to work with me instead of saying things like "doctors don't pay attention to naturopaths".

The lump type feeling in my throat has gone now. I don't know if it felt like a goiter and I couldn't see any external swelling, but it did worry me.

As the child of a German, growing up with pickled herring in the house constantly, I can't even stand the smell of it let alone eating it :) I will try some sardines.

I try to have a healthy, nutrient dense diet and stay away from processed/refined foods but it is a good point about the bad stuff, I really need to try to curb the alcohol and caffeine.
