I had a DVT/PE in February 2012 that I was lucky to escape alive. Since then however I have been in a state of continually declining health and increasing weight. Part of it is vascular damage from the blood clots, but I knew that couldn't be ALL of it. I was on Warfarin for over 8 months and have zero doubt that the poisonous nature of that "medication" is still stuck in my system. I've had two miscarriages since coming off the Warfarin. Before it, I had four utterly healthy pregnancies in 16 years (and obviously I'm still quite fertile, since we GET pregnant immediately every time we try). We decided no more tries unless / until my health improves.

At my most recent appointment with my internal medicine specialist, he performed an Iodine deficiency test; positive. I have all the textbook signs as well. He put me on a product I've not seen mentioned anywhere in my new research mania, called BioTE.

BioTE makes several different types of supplements, but this one is specifically "Iodine Plus." It contains: 7.5 mg Iodide (as Potassium Iodide USP), 5 mg Iodine (as free Iodine USP), 10mg Zinc (as Zinc Amino Acid Cholate), 200 mcg Selenium (as I-Selenomethionine USP), and 1.2 mg Potassium (as Potassium Iodide USP). It's not a prescription, but I have not seen it anywhere except my doctor's office.

I also take 250 mg of Magnesium and 610 mg Fenugreek daily as per his recommendations.

I have been researching Iodine supplements since my appointment. I have seen a lot about many other products but nothing about BioTE. It seems, from my research, that the amount of Iodide/Iodine might be a tad on the high side, but it also contains the additional supplements most recommended to go with an Iodine regimen (Zinc, Selenium, and Potassium).

The only thing I have going on that seems a possible side effect and extremely uncomfortable is a sudden hypersensitivity to temperature. I'm getting cold sweats at some points during the day, but more predominantly I'm freezing in response to the high air conditioning levels (I live in Texas). I'm super-sensitive about body temp issues because I have been addicted to prescribed opiates twice in my life, and that was always the worst part of withdrawal from that, so it has really bad associations.

If this is possibly or probably a normal side effect of the detox, I will ride it out happily. I believe wholeheartedly that I do need the supplements. I'm just curious whether the dosage might be too high. I've read that supplements should be in mcg, not mg; but then again, the higher amount is already broken down into Iodide.

I would welcome input from those more knowledgeable and experienced as to the levels of the ingredients in BioTE. I'm really praying that this is going to help, because my health situation is taking a big toll on my marriage, my ability to be involved with my children as I always have been, and my ability to just live my life in general.
